My first few years in high school I only cared about going out with friends. Until my junior year, it hit me that after high school I was going to start paying to go to school. Then they started talking to me about scholarships.
Scholarships can play a big part in how your experience in college could be.
As time has passed, college has gotten more expensive and it could be a struggle to get a good education. For the seniors, this year they have to start making decisions on what school they will be attending for the upcoming school year. With students who aren’t financially stable have to start applying for scholarships.
When applying to scholarship it could be very hard since schools say “Students have to have at least a 3.0 GPA.” an article written from Washington State University. As for some YBHS students this could be very hard since some students do meet the requirements and some don’t.
Your grades in high school can play a big part in what college you get into.
When applying to scholarships it could be hard since people don’t know how to apply for them. As well it could be challenging because some students just miss the deadline and it is too late.
On the other hand, for some students it is a little bit easier. Since some students do extracurricular activities like sports or clubs.
When talking to Marvin Agot, from Yerba Buena and asking him if he did any sports, he said “In High School I played football and Track & Field which helped me decide what I wanted to be in life.” When doing sports in high school it could change your life since you can find something you enjoy and pursue it as a career.
When reading an article called How much can a student win from Scholarship? They said “..most scholarships are given due to sports or academic achievements.”This article is showing us that when doing sport it could be beneficial.
Another student from Yerba Buena named Ana Centeno. She played soccer for 4 years and now she is getting offers from other schools so she could play for them.
When talking to Ana, I asked her if she ever believed that there was a chance for her to get scouted. She replied by saying “I never thought I would get offers because I thought I wasn’t good enough.” But now she is deciding what offer to take because all the schools are good.
This student is showing us when doing extracurricular activities does payoff since now she is getting help because of it.
I asked Ana if she believes these schools can help her in the future and she said “Yes since these schools are small and they will be more resources for me.” Even though the schools who are trying to scout her are small. Ana believes that they would be better for her since they could help her more.
As we have seen scholarships can be given or received for many different things you do. Just know that scholarship could be very valuable for your future. It is possible to achieve scholarships when attending Yerba Buena.
