Lila Rossi, a 16 year old highschooler, used to wonder why people had to go to school every single day when there were things much more important than that, like doing things that can get us ready for the future. It just didn’t make sense to her. She said that she remembers thinking, “Why do we have to learn this or why do we have to learn that?”
What she has realized now is that learning and receiving your education is what 's going to get us ready for the future, as well as help us become someone we can be proud of.
“Now I know better. I feel like it’s very important to go to school every day, ready to learn,” Lila said. “Learning gives us knowledge and keeps us informed about the world around us.”
Lila has learned to love going to school because she gets to be educated about so many important things. Every day is a new experience that she could take with her to the future
Even though education has so many benefits, some students don’t take the chance to learn and instead lack on going to school.
“I know people who try to skip school just because they don’t want to ‘waste their time’. They don’t realize how lucky it is that we can go to school because there are so many people around the world who don’t have the privilege to,” Lila states.
According to Lila, most of her friends who don’t care about school have parents who are not involved in their child's education.
Parents play a big role when it comes to their kids’ education. They are the ones who can help them out and cheer them on to do the best they can.
I, personally, have parents who have helped me learn and grow as a person. Without them, I wouldn’t have gotten this far, especially when it comes to education.
When I was younger, I lacked studying and rarely ever cared about school, but my parents were there to help me move forward and learn. They pushed me enough to make me realize that it’s a privilege to have the opportunity to be educated.
Unfortunately, not all parents are like that. Some parents fail to help students move forward.
Lila feels like her parents are like that. “They just don’t care. They think I spend a lot of time on studying and not paying attention to other things. They don’t realize that education is one of the things that will help me towards a brighter future.”
Our parents are our role models. If they don’t inspire us to do better, we can’t become the best versions of ourselves.
NeaToday has confirmed that, “Parental engagement has a positive impact on many indicators of student achievement, including higher grades, enrollment in higher level programs, lower drop-out rates, as well as higher graduation rate.”
“As parents, it’s our responsibility to make sure our students achieve their goals or dreams,” Lindsey Ahren, a San Jose resident, says. “I make sure I play my role as a parent and help my kids reach their dreams and have a bright future by giving them what they need to learn and stay educated.”
Even though it’s beneficial for parents to help the students out, it’s also important for students themselves to try to understand the importance of education.
“We are there to guide them, but it’s their job to make sure they are learning. It’s their job to be present at school each day, it’s their job to do their homework, and it’s their job to keep up with their school work,” Ahren says.
According to CRC Health, skipping school or classes has a huge impact on a student’s education.
“I’ve had students who come to school every day. Those are the ones with high grades. I’ve had students who constantly skip school. They are the ones with poor grades,” Kelly Youngman, a teacher at San Jose, says.
Going to school is important because it’s the only way we can keep our grades up and learn as much as we can.
When asked why education is important for an individual, Youngman states that, “It’s a way we can learn many skills and take that with us so we don’t have to depend on others.”
I agree with her because I want to be self dependent in the future and receiving my education is the key to that. I want to learn and develop new skills so I can make my own decisions wherever I go.
“As I keep learning, I realize why it’s so important to go to school and stay educated,” Lila says. “If we’re receiving our education, we’re leading ourselves towards a better future.”
