A couple months ago schools across the country switched to distance learning due to the corona virus and it was all going well. We didn't get a lot of homework and everything was done in class.. Until we started getting more and more work to do. This is not right, we should not be getting as much work as we do at the moment.

According to Jose Perez, a junior at Yerba Buena High School he gets around 4 to 6 assignments per day. Some assignments take around 15 minutes to do but others take more than 45 minutes so we are looking at about 2 or more hours of homework a day. That is a whole other 2 hours of work to do for school. It exceeds the amount of homework we have gotten when we went to school in person.

On average we have school for 5-6 hrs every single day just doing work. But now you also have to do homework every single day which adds up to let's say one or two hrs minimum. So now you are looking around 6-8 hours of work every single day. That's pretty much most of your day gone on just doing work. We don't get a lot of time to do things we love, to talk to those who we love, to live life. That's the thing we should be doing instead of doing so much homework.

It makes students feel stressed by the amount of work that we get every single day. Jose says that “I feel stressed because there are students that have to work or help out their brothers and sisters. There are multiple things that are going on. It gets you stressed because homework takes time out of your day when you have things to do. I know it’s school and I know its homework they give way too much. “

Some students got other things to do as Jose says “Yeah now we don’t go to physical school but that means now we have more responsibilities at home. Some parents got laid off and are asking their kids to help them out because they are not able to pay the bills. So some students have to work and with the amount of homework they get does not make it any easier”.

They did not give us this much homework when we had physical school. Jose said “When there was physical school they would give us much less homework and it was way less stressful than what it is now.”

There is no reason for us to get this much homework. According to an article on Gale called Homework it says that “ Some homework assignments don't even help students learn”. So what's the point of getting this much homework if some assignments don’t even help us learn.

This is not right and we should not deal with this, Jose says”Something should be done about it. They should talk to the teachers to give us less homework”.

According to Jose we should get less homework because we are still young and we should be able to enjoy life right now. We won't be able to enjoy life later on because we will be working.

We shouldn’t be getting as much homework as we do right now. As you're reading this, many students are being affected and are becoming stressed and they are missing out on other activities. This is why we should not get as much homework as we get right now. Teachers should understand that it stresses us out and that we have other stuff to do too.
