COVID-19, a virus that puts everyone in fear, a virus that doctors must be even more cautious about than fellow pedestrians who only take certain precautions during this pandemic. It affects people in various different ways, sad, upset, angry, fear, some even relieved.
Particularly doctors though, the ones closest to the virus, the ones who have to work to attempt and treat the virus, the ones who are still in employment and working. How does it affect doctors?
Amara Onuorah, a nurse who is currently employed and working close to the virus shared how COVID 19 has impacted her life. She says “Physically I am so tired and I feel mentally drained”. As well as being a nurse she is also a wife and a mother of three kids , having to work then come home to her family on a daily basis.
It's very tiring for Amara Onuorah, taking multiple precautions to stay safe as she prays she doesn’t get the virus, going into work scared everyday taking PPE (personal protection equipment).
We only think about how it affects us, never how it affects doctors who are scared to go to work , who also are parents, and have other priorities like family. Amara takes precautions even outside of work when coming home to her family.
She says “I am very careful by not meeting them when I arrive home, putting my clothes separately in the washer away from others, and taking my bath”.
She is hardworking and does her best when taking precautions to ensure she doesn’t get the virus. As well as being scared to go to work she believes covid is deadly and would want everyone to take this matter very seriously.
During this pandemic situation, she actually has to work more than before, meaning longer hours with patients who have the virus as well as those who come in from an urgent emergency.
The lifestyle of a nurse has changed for sure so when Amara says “even if it's an emergency, we still need to screen all patients for covid” I think doctors and nurses are trying their hardest to make sure we’re okay. My thoughts on how people work in the field of health were completely different than how it truly is.
As for those in the health work field and those who are just pedestrians are completely different , doctors take many more precautions than we do for safety reasons. They’re the ones closest to catching the virus than any of us are. It makes their jobs much harder than it already is when people go out and not take safety precautions like 6ft distancing, wearing a mask , and thoroughly washing your hands.
