One afternoon,my mom, my little brother and I went to the store. I was young so i don't remember much but what I remember was that some lady told my mom something really rude. In my opinion I don't think the lady should have said what she said to my mom. I was young so I didn't really understand what the lady told my mom.
I wish I was this age that I am right now so I can help my mom so she shouldn't have gone through that. Right now I am so happy she can kind of understand english and can speak it a little bit.
A few years ago, my mom experienced racism for the first time in a store. My mom was surprised about what the lady had said because it was her first time experiencing racism. I was really young, I was around 6-7 and my baby brother was like 1. I don't really remember much about what happened but till this day my mom remembers what the lady told her.
My mom remembers that she was looking for a specific time in the grocery store and she asked one of the workers in spanish if she knew where the time was. My mom told her in spanish because she doesnt know english and the lady looked mexican.
My mom reambers that the lady told her “you should go back to your country” and the lady was so proud about it. There was people around her and all they did was looked at the worker and did a dirty looked to the worker some people felt bad for my mom and told her “I'm sorry you had to go through this”
My mom responded to the lady “I shouldn’t go back to my country just for the simple thing that I don't know english”.
“I feel safe in the U.S but not with the president we have because with all these things he says about the latino community.”
I don’t think people should ever feel unsafe anywhere or from anyone because of our race, our skin color. At the end of the day we are humans.
