People tend to fear what they don’t know, and this is the reason why people don’t usually go outside their comfort zones. Lizbeth Murillo, a senior at Yerba Buena, also knows how scary it can be to have a completely new experience, but that fear doesn’t stop her from trying.
Lizbeth thought that learning to drive was really difficult, and it would be a challenge to learn all the controls.
However, this didn’t stop her from trying. She says, “Eventually you are going to need to drive to go anywhere so it's better to start early.”
Lizbeth's perspective changed after she eventually got used to the basic controls. Lizbeth, with more experience, believes that learning the controls are the hardest part, but everything else is pretty easy.
She says that she finds driving fun: “I don’t drive that often because my family is afraid that there might be an accident and I’m still learning, but when I do drive it's really fun.”
Lizbeth says that learning how to drive wasn’t just an experience, but it was also a lesson to step out of her comfort zone more often.
She says that this special memory also taught her: “It taught me that not everything is going to be hard. We’re just scared.”
With her mom, Lizbeth went camping. When it was time to return home, Lizbeth was really scared because she thought she would crash, or even lose her life. However, her mother was there to comfort her, and helped her step by step.
Lizbeth Murillo Sandoval doesn’t regret taking that chance, because she didn’t just learn how to drive, but she also learned that it's not always bad to go outside your comfort zone.
