A 15 year old yerba Buena high school student, Johny Du, has deaf parents and it is hard for him but friends make him feel like family.
Having deaf parents is very hard for Du. SInce they are deaf he is now more independent since he does stuff on his own. Du said “most of the time it is just, i have to do like everything” He can’t really ask his parents for help because that can’t help him in most things.
Since he doesn’t have a strong bond with his parents he is able to have a good one with his friends. “I don’t have like a strong bond with my parents so having a strong bond with my friends is really important” The strong bond with his friends is very important for him to have to be able to talk with them about anything.
Du likes to play basketball especially with his friends. He has been playing it for four years and is still continuing. He likes to play sports and he plays with his friends and it is fun for him because they get to mess around but they know it’s all love. “Playing with my friends and playing everyday, just realizing how fun it is just to play with my friends”
Vu also likes to play video games and he has changed to PC and plays with friends. He loves to play it because there are toxic people and sometimes he will talk back to them just for fun but he likes to play with friends more because it is a better experience. “ I talk back but I try to make a joke out of it”
Throughout all of this he is able to find an outlet. He has 2 outlets but they all connect to one and it’s friends. His friends are like his family. He is able to have a close connection with them and they help him go through life and they are always there supporting him.”The positive vibes and also I am most comfortable being with them and just being myself”
Connections will always be important
