Has there ever been someone who has influenced the way you act? For Kenny Nguyen, a 16-year old YB student, that person is his father. During his younger years Nguyen began realizing how much he had learned from his father.
During Nguyen’s younger years, his father was someone he wanted to be like in the future. One main example of that is when Nguyen was in the 3rd grade. His family was going through a rough time such as his parents separating causing Nguyen to not be in the best state.
During that time Nguyen’s father seemed to be the only one to reach out to him. “Maybe the time were in like 3rd grade like after a bunch of stuff happened my dad reached out to me cause i wasn't the one that was in good shape all my family was and he just told me that i shouldn't just give up and just continue on and rather than just giving up,” said Nguyen.
Around the time he was in 4th grade he realized that he and his father are basically the same person, just different in age and personality. Nguyen also started realizing certain personality traits of his father that he also wanted.
“His attitude to be honest you know he has some kind of mentality, a strong one especially when things are really bad he doesn't just give up he rather continues on. And that's what kind of person I really want to be,” said Nguyen.
Despite his friends saying he shouldn't be like his father due to their own expectations, Nguyen doesn’t care. “My friends probably...have their own standards and I have my own standards and both of us are different people and you know he's probably following his dad's footsteps and I'm following mine,” said Nguyen.
He also says that he doesn’t “want others becoming like my dad. I think this is like a son to father relationship and it has to be special.”
