Johnathan Michua, a freshmen at Yerba Buena High school, experienced how to live his life through quarantine without having any struggles along the way until school opened again. Johnathan spent months being stuck at home with only having technology and his family with him but that didn’t stop him from overcoming his boredom soon after the quarantine.
Before the pandemic, Johnathan was able to have a free reign. For example, being able to go out to food spots with his friend and hanging out with his friends to some special place. But then, COVID came and he thought his life was over because of how quarantine would be.
“Quarantine was really overwhelming because there were still a lot of things I wanted to do with my friends and family but couldn't because of the pandemic going on around the country”, he said.
Then, over the course of quarantine, he spent his time staying home being bored and just playing his video games or watching shows. Then, online school showed up and he had to go through the struggles of how virtual online school works. But once he was able to know what to do with his assignments, tests, and how to join Zoom for his classes, he managed to pull through the last 6 months of his 8th grade year with the help of his friends and teachers.
During the summer, however, it was once again full of boredom.
“Summer really was just a boring month for me because all I did was stay home not being able to go to beaches or other fun events,” he said.
He had to go through staying at home and not being able to go out with his friends. Spent most of the time talking with his friends while playing video games and hanging out with his family in the house during dinner time. Until his parents decided to go on a little vacation to Las Vegas.
When he and his family departed to go to Las Vegas he mentioned, “I haven’t traveled to any places, states, or countries until last summer I had the chance to go to Las Vegas.” During his time in Las Vegas, he was able to meet up with his cousin whom he hasn’t talked to or hung out with for 5 years. And so it made Johnathan really happy to know that cousin was there in Las Vegas with him and his family.
Not only was he able to see his cousin again but, he was able to see a lot of amazing things in Las Vegas. He visited museums which had fascinating sculptures and paintings. Also, he had the chance to sleep in an amazing hotel which had well designed furniture. And so that week, he was having a lot of fun.
Then, after his week of vacation, he was back home doing the same old routine. Although, he has a dog that would sometimes make his day. His dog’s name is “Bell '' and it’s a girl. Everyday Bell would come to Johnathan’s bed and cuddle with him whenever he’s on it. But, Bell herself has a sad backstory.
Bell, currently a 3 years old dog, had an ear infection when she was born. Fortunately, she went through treatment and it helped her ears a lot. Currently right now, Bell is doing fine and is in great care because of Johnathan and his family doing their best taking care of her.
The loneliest moment in someone's life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly. I think that it really captured his experience when he knew and felt how it is to be lonely without having any friends around as much.
