Moving to a new environment can be very difficult. A whole new place where everything is new. Kathy Cao, a senior at Yerba Buena High School knows, first hand, just how difficult it is.
Cao had to face a lot of new challenges such as having to get used to a new place. She had moved to a new school and to a whole new environment. Cao moved from Stockton to San Jose in March 2018. This meant a new school and a new neighborhood.
Cao’s new neighborhood was very different compared to her old neighborhood. Cao said, “the neighborhood I'm living in, in San Jose it’s very quiet. In Stockton, I lived in like one of those really cheap homes.”
Changing neighborhoods wasn’t the only difference Cao had faced. Going to a new school felt very weird and different.
Aug 10, 2021 was Cao’s first day at a new school. She had switched from Independence High School to Yerba Buena High School. She was very nervous about going to a new school. A new school meant new people, a whole new environment. “It was weird and new, I didn’t know anybody here- I wish I did, it will be better,” Cao said.
Cao had been very nervous about going to a new school. “I feel like everyone already knows people since I'm a senior. And I feel like everyone already knows each other,” Cao said.
Though school has already started, Cao still faces the challenges of having to meet new people.
Cao’s story helps others know that even though life gets hard, you will always get through it. Life is full of challenges that you may find yourself drowning in but you can get through it no matter what.
