Many of our paths throughout life can be mostly good but sometimes there are really tough with unexpected things that come along the way. But it helps us grow and learn more about ourselves.
When we are going through the toughest moment is when we discover a hobby to distract us. Alexa Ayala, A 17 year old student at YB talks about her path that has led her to discover something special that helped her manage throughout any hard moment in her life.
Many of our feelings get pushed back when we try to ignore them. But Ayala has something more important that helps her cope.
Growing up she realized what living in San Jose was and even when some people made her feel left out, she realized that San Jose was like home to her once she found the right people and hobbies.
Music is a big attribution of her life that has helped her express her feelings. Along with music, she also has journaling. Whenever she may be feeling down she always goes to jot down whatever she may be feeling while listening to music.
A big part of listening to music is the concerts that come along with it. These concerts slowly started changing Ayala's way of enjoyment. One of most recent concerts she has gone to is big time rush and it is just a concert that has the most special meaning to her, “the most special concert i've gone to is Big Time Rush”, “it was really special for me because i've known them my whole childhood and i really loved them and it had always been my dream to see them”
Along with Big Time Rush, Ayala has also gone to a Billie Eilish concert. She sees Billie Eilish as a very relatable person in the very close age gap she has with her. She just makes her see the world differently and helps her find deeper meaning, “another artist that i like listening to is billie eilish because she is just really relatable and i don't find her life to be the same but her lyrics just mean something to me and i really understand where she's coming from and she's very in a way close to my age and she has impacted me as a person and see the world differently”
Going through those harsh times of feeling like not belonging in a community, Ayala then realized that music was something really important in her life. Especially when she felt lost and when she didn't know if she was going to be fine or if someone out there was going through the same thing.
“I think when I started going through really tough times in my life, that's when I realized that music was really important for me because I would listen to songs that are really relatable and they would help me cope and saying that everything was going to be okay"
“Ever since then I have always had music that relates to my life,” said Ayala.
When you are at your lowest point, find something that you enjoy doing and you will surely forget about all those problems that made you feel like there is nothing ahead of you. Ayala found music.
