Starting off as a freshman at Yerba Buena High school, Winnie Tran, at the age of 14, had just developed an insecurity that could be inspiring to others, and quite life changing for her.
Winnie had developed an undergoing skin condition that occurs to nearly everyone around the age of 13 known as acne. For Tran, acne played a big role from her teenage years going into her adult years, making a large impact within her feelings.
“I was a freshman going all the way into my junior year, I had horrible acne” stated Tran.
From the beginning of high school up until her junior-senior year, Tran had trouble treating and getting rid of her acne. Tran was stubborn because she thought no one would be able to help her skin, and she thought she was the only one who could help herself. It wasn’t until she had gone to see a dermatologist when her acne started to slowly, progressively disappear.
“I went to a dermatologist and she prescribed me medication and stuff and my acne went away and it made me feel less insecure,”Tran claimed. ”It made me feel good about myself again.”
Around the time of this treatment, Tran began to become confident with her looks again. She loved having better, healthier, clearer skin and soon came to the conclusion that she wanted to become a dermatologist. But exactly why?
Tran expressed, “Just so I can make people feel better about their insecurities and help them in any way I can.”
Tran always knew she wanted to work within the medical field as an esthetician or dermatologist, but ever since Tran’s dermatologist came to the aid of her, Tran was even more inspired to become a dermatologist so people who went through the same thing as Tran did would not have to worry so much about their physical appearance due to any skin conditions, hair loss, etc..
“I can make people feel better about their insecurities and help them in any way I can,” Tran announced,”I can do what I love while getting people to love themself too.”
To further fulfill Tran’s dream, she settled on attending a community college after graduating high school, then going to a bigger university such as Touro Vallejo University for health professions or De Anza College. She hopes to get to an even bigger college down in South California, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
