Esteban Lopez is a 12th grader from Yerba Buena High school. His name came from the bible.
Lopez’s name corresponds to an angel in the bible which is why his mom decided to name him Esteban. In Spanish “este” means that one. Which is another reason why she chose to name him “Esteban”. For a long time he didn’t like his name. The way that people would pronounce it as “esta-bon” instead of “es-te-van” caused him not to like it.
Esteban wants to be an electrician when he grows up. “I don’t know what there is coming for me from that field yet but I hope it brings me more construction knowledge” says Esteban. He wants to not only know how to be an electrician but also to become a handyman. He says “A handyman is better in general because a handyman doesn’t just know how to fix one thing but knows how to fix multiple things”.
One of Esteban’s hardest moments in life was when he was living in downtown San Jose. His apartments were a lot poorer and his financial situation wasn’t the worst but not at the place he is now. He had a lot of good memories but as well as bad. One of the best memories he had is when he would play video games on his Xbox 360. A bad moment for him is when he had to move out because it was hard adjusting. It definitely shaped him as a person and he learns to appreciate everything that he has now.
Someone that inspires him is his mom because his mom is a person that builds her knowledge and wants to become a better person day by day. Esteban and his mom got a lot closer through God. He goes to Church with her every Sunday when he doesn’t have work. Their best moments are when they have conversations. Whether it is about life, problems in the real world, work, or even about family. He listens a lot to his mom’s advice. She reads the bible everyday and is also studying to get her barber license. Seeing that his mom tries to better herself everyday inspires him to do the same.
His story is very inspiring because although he has had a lot of ups and downs he still tries to grow himself everyday to reach his goals.
