What does it mean to be a part of a club?
For most students, being a part of a club allows you to make the best of your high school experience. It may also be great for creating new long-lasting friendships and could even enhance the quality of your college application.
Amerie Lopez is a senior at Yerba Buena High School and although it is her last year of school, she is making the best out of it by working hard on leading a variety of clubs.
Amerie: “I'm the culinary club president, national honor society vice president, music club treasurer, Red Cross secretary, and soon CSF president”.
It is truly unbelievable to imagine the effort required to lead these clubs.
Amerie: “I'm in these clubs because I love giving back to the community in various ways.”
More specifically, Lopez finds herself attached to the Culinary Club as she made the club early on in high school.
Amerie: “The culinary club means a lot to me as I started this club from scratch and was able to build my leadership experience off of it and as no one is perfect this club has allowed me to make mistakes and learn from them”
Starting anything new is a challenging job, clubs are not an exception. Even through the struggle of keeping the club alive, Lopez has managed to find the experience rewarding.
Amerie: “Although the club is still small due to it being new I am happy to see returning members in each event or those who participated last year as this shows their interest in the club.
It's scary trying anything new for the first time. Lopez gives advice to high schoolers interested in joining the club.
Amerie: “You miss 100% of the shots you do not take so do not be afraid to join if you do not have any experience! ...you are still able to grow and learn new things which is why you should join to either share your talents, learn, or even join a new community to make friends”
As she gets ready to graduate in 2024, Lopez will always cherish her high school experience.
Amerie: “What I'll miss the most is all my friends and clubs! As everyone proceeds to go their separate ways after the school year ends I'll miss all those people and wish to stay in touch.
Lopez will soon venture beyond high school. This means that she will no longer be able to see the future of the club. Lopez hopes that the Culinary Club will be kept alive in the spirit of cooking and baking.
