Miranda Coronado Is sophomore at Yerba Buena High School, a first generation student is not always going to be easy, but she has her parents and friends there to help her and support her.
Her parents spent most of their lives in Mexico but came to the U.S for a better life, though she may have grown up with struggles but San Jose is her home and her friends and family are here.
As a first generation American, struggles are bound to happen as you grow up. Especially if your parents are undocumented, not being able to travel out of state or to visit your country and always having to worry about something, it may be stressful.
Miranda has had these struggles and experiences, first hand. She is not able to travel out of state with her parents, if she does, she has to leave them back here in California. This affects Miranda heavily since she wants to visit her country with her parents.
Miranda: “My parents are undocumented, we can’t travel out of state, or together at least, and they can’t visit Mexico or like I can’t visit Mexico with them or else they are going to have to stay back”.
Fortunately for Miranda She grew up here, She has her friends, family and her life here. She grew up here with her parents. Something nice she said was that she would go to rose gardens with her parents and have picnics which sounds very comforting and beautiful and a really amazing way to connect with your family, especially when you are young.
Miranda: “I would go to like rose gardens and we would sometimes have picnics there”
Growing up here may have not been the easiest, but Miranda has had her friends by her side to accompany her, before she went to Yerba Buena High School, her previous schools were Meadows Elementary and Bridges Academy, When she was in middle school, Miranda met her two closest friends, Alisa and Suprena, she has been friends with since 7th grade, but she started to get close with Suprena nearing the end of 8th grade. This shows that even with the Struggles of being a first generation American/student, Miranda still had people there to support her and be there for her.
