To keep it short, I simply just really like playing League of Legends. I like it to the point where it’s always at the back of my mind every day, no matter what I am doing. Even during class, when I’m about to sleep, or when talking to a friend. Although not many of my friends play League, I still find a way to have fun and enjoy it.
Before League, I always used my free time to discover different games despite not having a PC or gaming laptop to play on Steam, and for no particular reason, I wanted to be more drawn to easy and casual games such as Stardew Valley, so I played that game a lot.
Stardew Valley focuses on leveling up your farm and interacting with NPCs to build relationships with one another. I played it for a while, but I couldn’t get into it as much despite spending a lot of time on it. I felt bored with the same interactions and gameplay. After that, I gave up on games for a while.
During the summer before senior year, I randomly decided to download League on my iPad, simply because I had nothing else to do. I was confused at first by how different the gameplay was compared to other games I’ve played, but what really sparked my interest was the art style and the characters.
League is a 5v5 multiplayer battle arena game; each teammate has a different role in battle. I never played a game like this before, but I quickly got used to it. I liked how every character had various abilities and backgrounds, and is capable of being powerful as long as you know how to use them well.
I began to play more frequently, especially with one of my closest friends. I would even bring my iPad to school just to play League. The more I played and leveled my rank up, the more I got distracted from my other responsibilities.
Even once school began, I always thought of League. I always replayed the previous battles I had had on League in my mind almost all the time during class. I even brought my iPad to play with one of my friends, but it caused me to lose focus and forget what I was supposed to be doing in school.
Because of that, I had to put League aside. I was pretty sad. I was worried I’d get bad at the game, since in order to be good, you need to play regularly, because people online would only continue to get better.
After 1-2 months, I went back to League since I was doing better in my classes, and I missed it a lot. At first, it was a bit weird to get used to again because there were a lot of updates and how well other players were compared to me, but the gameplay remained the same, and I instantly went back to enjoying it.
I’m making an effort to only play League once or twice a day while still maintaining my other responsibilities. I don’t want to go back to my previous habit of nonstop playing, but I think that is why it is healthy to find a balance between a game and yourself. I think everyone should play League.
