Brandon Lo is a Photography and Digital Art teacher at Yerba Buena who's been teaching here at YB for 13 years.
Mr.Lo majored in fine arts and graduated from SJSU. Originally, he wanted to be an animator and create vector graphics, but then he switched to photography because the process of taking photos was quicker than producing images.
Mr. Lo: “I went to school to study photography because it was faster to produce images than drawing and painting. I originally wanted to study animation and illustration, but I realized it was much harder.”
Mr.Lo was inspired to teach multimedia when he was asked by another teacher to educate the class because they felt more comfortable guiding students with photography.
Mr.Lo: “What inspired me to teach multimedia was another multimedia teacher said they needed more multimedia teachers, and he felt more comfortable teaching photography versus multimedia, so I said sure I’ll try it”
Mr.Lo enjoyed teaching students how to draw because of his background in traditional drawing and painting. Though he didn't get to teach much of it so he took the chance to teach it again.
Mr.Lo: “I enjoy that I can teach students to draw because I have been doing photography for a long time, while I do have a background in traditional drawing and painting, I wasn't able to teach much of that, but now in graphic design, I get to do that again, but digitally.”
Mr.Lo’s joy in his life is watching his kids grow, and they take a lot of dance classes, and he enjoys seeing them perform on stage. A hobby of his is tabletop games, which is a club he hosts to help build friendships with his students and non-students who are interested in his club.
Mr.Lo: “My kids, I enjoy seeing them grow and see them perform on stage and table top games because they help build community.”
