Han Lu was 13 years old when she found out what she wanted to do for the rest of her future: become a nurse, like her aunt.
Lu grew up in South Vietnam with her family. In 2022, when she was 13, she and her family moved to the U.S. because her parents wanted her and her sibling have a better life than them, and they knew that coming to the U.S. had a lot of opportunities and future for their daughters . This was a really big move for Lu and her family. She really struggled with learning English, but that didn't stop her, and she kept pushing and trying to adjust to this new lifestyle.
Before she moved to the U.S Lu wasn't sure what career she wanted to pursue in the future, but that uncertainty was short-lived because she would soon find the answer. When Lu moved from Vietnam to the U.S., she didn't have a clear idea of what she wanted to become. Once she arrived in the U.S., she spent time with her aunt, who already had a career in nursing in the U.S. She would listen to her aunt talk about her work; she would hear about the patients she helped, the long shifts, and the sense of pride her aunt felt when caring for her patients. These conversations were the moment Lu realized she wanted to pursue the same path as her aunt and became a nurse.
Han's aunt, Phuong, moved to the U.S. in 2010, and she studied to become a nurse to help people. Her aunt worked really hard to pursue nursing, and she achieved what she wanted to become.
She inspired 13-year-old Han to pursue nursing. Han saw her aunt become a nurse; she would see her taking care of people, which inspired her. “Sometimes, my aunts talked about her work life and tell me if I can I should take this major because I could help people, but don’t study too much as a doctor, Therefore, I tried to explore this major through searching, and I feel like I already found my dream major.
