For as long as she can remember, Betty Pham's childhood was really rough growing up; she was also a super shy kid. That experience made her realize that she wanted to work with children and be around them.
Pham is a senior in yerba buena high school and has a passion for growing up and becoming a social worker.
A social worker is someone who helps individuals or families with their everyday problems. Pham said ¨ it gave me passion to work with children because i know my needs were not fulfilled”
Which showed her that other people might be going through the same and she wants to give the support she never got to other kids who might need it.
Growing up with family problems. Pham said ”it impacted me in a pretty negative way growing up.¨
Shows that her childhood was rough she also mentioned having problems with her mom and it affected her. Pham was a very shy kid growing up that went through a lot but still continued to keep pushing herself through.
Pham had an elementary teacher named Nancy that updated her in every step in her life. Nancy was a person who she trusted and felt comfortable with, someone she felt she could talk about anything that was going through her life.
Pham said ¨ she was always super kind to me and saw me for who I was.. She is a great woman”
Nancy was a supportive person to Pham; she had good conversations with her even though she was young. Pham ended up moving to a district which led to her email to be deleted and she lost contact with her.
Pham's dream is to work with children to become a social worker or an elementary teacher. After everything she went through she feels like she would provide a good environment for them and also make them be heard and seen because she knows how it feels not to be heard or seen.
She said ¨ it would most definitely like heal my inner child and make me honestly really proud of myself.¨
Pham said “if I was given that opportunity to help other children growing up it would make me happy.¨
