If you had a brother or sister and I asked you if they are annoying at times or they just don’t listen to you, you would properly say yes. Now imagine if you had two brothers or sisters who were autistic. That is the life of a senior in high school named Yessi Rivas.
Even though Rivas has two autistic brothers she is learning things from them like how to show love because even since she was young she grew up with her grandmas and she didn’t show love properly, but from her littler brother they showed love verbally.
“It helped me by just showing them love, because I grew up with my grandma, and she didn't show me love properly. And now like my little brothers, they're Like, they show love verbally, and they'll be saying, I love you. And Make, I just, that's how I helped me show my emotions,” Rivas said.
Another thing that Rivas learned was how to be more patient because since her two little brothers are autistic they are really impatient and will not wait to get whatever they want now.
Though her little youngest brother has been through a lot because ever since he was young he didn't eat that much, didn’t talk that much, and he would throw up. Because he was throwing up he didn’t eat and this made him become skinny. But now he talks a lot more he is now eating more and now he is trying a lot of fruits and he is now a lot more talkative.
“So every time he would throw up, he didn't want to eat nothing. So it was just kind of like it was kind of scary like because he wouldn't eat anything and it was just like he was so skinny, but 2 months ago, They put a tool like down his throat and they kind of cleaned his stomach and all of that.” Rivas said.
Now because of what happened to her younger littler brother Rivas wants to study child development and then do child services or education because after she saw that her younger littler brother could get better it gave her motivation to help out kids that need help.
“Seeing my brothers get the help that they needed since they were little, seeing them that they can get better, I think it gave me like a little motivation to also help kids that need help and yeah.” Rivas said.
But this isn't the only reason she wants to do child development and child services because she wants to help kids that don’t get help just because they are seen as a “bad kid.” But for Rivas she believes that there is always a reason on why a kid is being bad
“ I wanna help kids who don't get the help that they need because there's a lot of kids who there's just viewed as bad child like bad kids. But like there's always a reason of why a kid is being bad and yeah.” Rivas said.
