After covid-19 many kids became anti-social, not being able to go outside forced them to lose human interaction. After the lock down few kids stayed to themselves but few got out their shell, like how Alex Cabrera is doing.
Cabrera was born and raised in San Jose. When school resumed he was a middle schooler, he is now a senior who has come a long way.
Many of us think these past years from 2021 to 2026 went by really fast, just at the blink of an eye you're a middle schooler and now you're in your last year of high school.
“I feel neutral about being a senior, I guess it came by quickly, the years went by fast,” said Cabrera.
During covid time since nobody could go outside, Alex stayed home doing activities with his siblings, like watch the tv and play games. Something they’d watch together would be Naruto and they’d play brawl stars.
Cabrera says, “I just watch whatever my sibling puts, sometimes my sister watches naruto so I watch that”
A way he became more social was by learning the layout of the school, and making friends.
During the summer he decided to help coach kids of a baseball team, it was out of his comfort zone but he still did it. He decided to because it was to get his community service hours, but with that, talking became easier.
“I wanted to help because my mentor told me about it from connections, if I wanted to help coach kids from a baseball team and I did,” - Says Cabrera
Since he had to talk with parents, he got used to communicating with people. It got easier to en-long sentences, not only replying with yes’s and no’s it allowed more of his voice to be heard.
Since then he has grown to feel more comfortable when talking to others.
“It got slightly better, getting more comfortable with talking to other people,” Cabrera said
